Mary Stang is a photographer based in San Diego, California. With a background in the fine arts, her fine art photography employs pictorialist strategies, often exploring materiality through the manipulation of analog processes. Taking an observational and documentary approach to image-making, much of her work explores themes of isolation, emptiness, and abandonment, often embedded with a personal narrative of anxiety, using the camera as a coping mechanism. Looking at architecture, infrastructure, and objecthood, Mary’s photographs explore anxiety and contemporary culture, forcing us to look at how we engage with our everyday surroundings.

In her commercial work, Mary uses photography as a tool for marketing both the product and the company to the consumer. Through her use of lighting, set design, and overall aesthetics she creates compelling compositions intended for a variety of uses, in order to boost brand identity, sales, and customers.
